TO ALL MY MOTHERS

First let me wish a Happy Mother's Day to All.
No I am not calling all of you "mothers" and yet I am. To me my Mom has taken care of every need I had, and while we think that must be the female in our lives. What about everyone else?
Divorced or Widowed Dad's have now become both Mother and Father.
Uncles, Brothers and Cousins they have all baby sat, watched or taken care of us at one time or another.
While our MOM is the one we will remember the most this Sunday, please don't forget the rest.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL!!

READY TO RETIRE?

Why are athletes never ready to retire?
In my life it started with Michael Jordan, Brett Favre and now John Shmoltz. All of these players have had great careers and are all going in to the Hall of Fame in their respective sports. Why can they not go off into the sunset with grace. They have made millions of dollars on and off the playing field. When your time is up and your career is over please just say goodbye. Why must we have retire parties 2 and 3 times before you actually leave. If you are a middle of the road player I can almost understand trying to keep your career alive. But the likes of Michael Jordan is rated as one of the best basketball players of all times, as is Favre and Shmoltz. Each time they retire and come back they do not do even half as good as they did when they played before retiring.
Michael Jordan will not be remembered for his time in Washington, Brett Favre did nothing with the Jets and does anybody believe he will take the Minnesota Vikings to the Super Bowl this year. As for John Shmoltz he has gone from a starter to a reliever and then back to a starter after major surgery, please just say you are done, you have gone to ST. Louis in hopes of regaining your stardom and carrying them to the playoffs, but we have just watched your last year and only their explosive offense will help you make it to the 5th inning and beyond.
When it is time to retire all athletes should go out on top of their sport and say THANKYOU for a great career.

Forever Hopeful!!

Mets fans lived in hope for one week as the team went on a 5 game winning streak!! As a die hard NY Mets fan we all realize that the season is over. Yet we continue to tune in to watch with hope that the injured will return and we can make yet another miracle comeback.  During the middle of the winning streak we sat with baited breath as the division was washed away with the continuing winning by the Phillies, but the wild card came into view as while playing the Rockies we began to make up ground. With bounces off bases going directly to players and being turned into double plays, we thought it was now our turn to make up ground and move up the ladder. But now two days later and losing both games we once again are waking up to the fact that this is at best a 500 team.

While some may still hold out hope that we can turn it around as the front office tells us that 3 of our 4 major injured players should be back within the next two weeks I believe I for one have decided that there is no hope for this year. I continue to watch and hope and will be anticipating the return of Delgado, Beltran and Reyes. But the front office has given up hope this year by not doing anything at the trade deadline. How as NY Mets fans can we continue to hope if the front office (rumors) pass up on the likes of Halliday, Lee and Martinez. Prospects are just that prospects who should be given up for proven players.

May 2009 be a distant memory soon and we can look forward to the off season and the rebuilding of our beloved Mets for 2010.
